Matt-green heart shaped leaves used medicinally and much loved by a small native caterpillar which creates 'uniquely perforated' leaves. Hardy.

Here the 2 subspecies of Macropiper excelsum are growing together, psittacorum to the left and excelsum to the right showing clearly how much darker and glossier the psittacorum is compared with the excelsum.
..hole free leaves - a nice sight.
