When the Monarch Butterfly NZ Trust wanted to give a gift of plants, locally sourced from Rarangi Beach, east of Blenheim, they came to Oratia. Not only could we provide an eco-sourced species, it was also a plant which had since disappeared from the region!

Collospermum hastatum
Height: 1m;  Spread: 1m
Kahakaha (Lily & Iris-like)
Wide fleshy bright green flax-like leaves. Epiphytic, living in tree branches. Do not plant into ground as it needs a free draining site under shade. Useful pot plant.

The thick skirts of dead leaves hanging below mature Collospermums can produce some amazing sculptural effects.
