Summer planting
Contrary to popular opinion, summer planting is fine as long as adequate water is provided throughout any prolonged dry periods. This allows you to take advantage of increased summer growth.
Astelia chathamica

Silver spear (Lily & Iris-like)
Formerly widespread on the Chatham Islands, on a few remote rock stacks, or in protected bush where it is safe from grazing. Broad silver leaves. The boldest of the Astelia genus, it grows in sun or shade.
