Description
Short lived perennial herb to 40 cm tall by 50 cm wide. The stems are slender and hairy. The leaves are light green 1 - 4 cm long by 1 cm wide and are hairy also. Upper leaves may get longer and narrower. The flowers are 2 cm wide and light blue, bell shaped. The plant is not very dense or showy but the flowers are produced in mass. The plants in the wild are very small compared to the description that has been given. If you were to try and find the plants in the wild chances are you would walk straight past them. Cultivated plants even when put back into poor soils still grow much bigger than those in the wild, they also have many more flowers which are bigger also.
Cultivation
It requires full sun or dappled shade in a well drained soil. Not fussy about poor or rich soils. May die down during winter and should self seed easily. Very attractive when in flower and attracts the native bees. Usually found growing in scrub, on tracks and coastal places. Fast growing. Note that not many native plants have blue flowers.
