Brachyglottis sciadophila

Family
Asteraceae (formerly Compositae)

Distribution
South Island, Nelson and Akaroa to latitude 46 on east of the divide. Localised and found on forest margins in lowland to montane areas.
Our stock is sourced from the Riwaka Resurgence in Nelson.

Description
A liane with soft woody stems up to 5 m. May creep along ground and form tangled mass. Branches slender, flexuous, striate, pubescent, and branchlets pubescent often drooping. Leaves rather distant on slender petioles up to 2 cm long or more, lamina 1.5 - 3 x 1.5 - 3 cm, orbicular and coarsely dentate, scaberulous on both surfaces. Capitula less than 1 cm diameter in axillary and terminal small panicles. Flowers yellow.

Cultivation
Requires cool moist spot with light shade. Needs a large area to spread and free-draining friable soil. Rather attractive and fast growing. Hard to establish in warmer areas. No guarantees as to the success of this plant, but well worth trying.

Status
Gradual decline.
